Attila Varga, professor of economics and chair of the Department of Economics and Regional Studies at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Pecs in Pecs, Hungary, was presented the RRI Outstanding Alumni Scholar award at a banquet in his honor at the Pines Country Club in Morgantown, WV. This award has been presented only three other times since its inception in 1990.
“His papers on localized academic ‘knowledge spillovers’ in the U.S. and in Europe are among the most frequently cited works internationally in that research field. Varga is also involved in policy impact modeling. His research group has developed the Geographic Macro and Regional model to study the way different development policy instruments impact communities in which they are implemented. The GMR system has been used in policy impact studies for the Hungarian government as well as the European Commission.” (Griffith, WVU Today, September 2011.)
