With the increased production of natural gas throughout the Appalachian region, many towns are experiencing a “Boom” in growth. This case study explores the interplay between the energy and sustainability within a broad regional development context. What can we learn from past energy development patterns, that frequently result in a “Bust,” to enable a transition towards a sustainable and prosperous future?
