Caigan has worked at West Virginia University for the past 21 years, 14 as a staff writer and currently as Research Administrative Assistant. A number of her articles have been reprinted in a variety of water and wastewater publications and at various universities and organizations, including George Mason University, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Prior to the university, she had worked for Joy Manufacturing Company and for Westinghouse Credit Corporation as a technical writer. Caigan enjoys community service work and volunteers for a variety of organizations.

Caigan’s daughter graduated from St. John’s University in New York and recently earned her Project Management Professional certification; she is a Project Manager at Aliera Companies. Her son, Mike, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and is a Health Project Coordinator at Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
